More than a Meal Application.jpg

The Brookhaven School District will be participating in the USDA’s National School Lunch Program “Seamless Summer Option (SSO)” for the duration of the 2021-2022 school year.  This program, while typically only available during the summer months, will continue to extend free meals to all students during the 2021-2022 school year.  According to the USDA, this option maintains the nutrition standards of the standard meal programs – including a strong emphasis on providing fruits and vegetables, milk, whole grains and sensible calorie levels.  This option also provides flexibility for schools to further customize their meal service design to fit their needs.

Nutrition is a cornerstone of learning and the Brookhaven School District is proud to participate in this program to ensure the nutritional needs of every child are fulfilled; enabling our students to attain their greatest potential.

Good nutrition and learning go hand in hand.

The Nutrition Services department is made up of a team of food and nutrition professionals that are dedicated to students' health, well being and their ability to learn. We support learning by promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutrition and fitness practices.

School breakfast and lunch provide the fuel for our  students to concentrate, learn and succeed in the classroom.  Well-nourished students have higher test scores, increased  school attendance, improved concentration and improved classroom behavior.

Meals, foods and beverages sold or served at schools meet state and federal requirements which are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines. We provide students with access to a variety of affordable and appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students.
